To all our esteemed stakeholders, this year World GIS day celebration will be held at the University of Nairobi, CAVS.  The day "provides an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society". In this event, students and lectures from various colleges will show case various GIS applications such as cartography skills, research posters in GIS as well as networking with representatives from various organizations who will be the speakers of the day.

The Field Station  produces various crops e.g spinach using drip irrigation system.  The system eliminates water runoff and less evaporation from soil which conserves & reduces water usage leading to higher gross margin.

Staff and students from various departments at the University of Nairobi attended open data workshop conducted on 4th and 5th October, 2017 at University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS). Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology was represented by Prof. Charles Gachene, Dr. Oscar Koech, Dr. Anne Karuma. Ms Carolyne Kyalo and a post graduate student Ms. Anne rose Mwangi.

The aim of workshop was to create an understanding of the opportunities those data sets, in their open form presents, and to equip the participants with an understanding of how to initiate the process of opening data sets for the creation of new knowledge through data curation.

Target participants were researchers and academics from Kenya. Among the representing organizations were Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KARLO), Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), World Agroforestry (ICRAF), Internal Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) , Ministry of planning and development,
