Dr. Koech Oscar, of the University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), a pasture expert at the African Dryland Institute for Sustainability (ADIS) conducted community training and outreach on pasture production in Garissa County. The training was conducted from 12-17th September, 2016 and  reached 9 farming groups and 2 Community Based Natural Resource Management Committee (CBNRM). The training covered module one topics of the pasture component in the planned activities for implementation by the ADIS, University of Nairobi under the ‘Feed the Future Accelerated Value Chain Development (AVCD) Program for smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists with Technologies and Innovations in Kenya’.The training aimed to provide the project beneficiaries with technical knowledge on the importance of pasture production, pasture species selection criteria, selection of reseeding/pasture production range sites and land preparation technologies for onsite water harvesting for pastures and crops.

Mr. Staline Kibet successfuly defended his PhD  thesis in Dryland Resource Management on 15th, September,2016. The research topic was on "Influence of mammalian herbivory on woody plants dynamics and ecosystem services in a semi- arid savanna"  He was congratulated by the Dean FOA ,BPS representative,  his supervisors and  board of examiners. We wish him success and future endeavors.

First year student’s BSC in Range Management (33) and BSC Management of Agro-Ecosystem (46), September 2016 intake were today welcomed to the department of LARMAT by members of staff led by the Chairman of the department, Prof, G. Kironchi. Their lectures highlighted on potential mandate to each student like any other Kenyan citizen in relation to Kenya’s vision 2030 as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).

To achieve these goals, theme to the two degree programs in the job market was clarified with emphasis in financial, environmental, education and agricultural sectors.

Students were advised to focus on major objective in higher learning institutions. Committed to excellence” This can be enhanced through determination, right company and mentorship within the University of Nairobi alliance coupled to discipline and respect.

The research topic was on "Monitoring changes in soil organic carbon, moisture content, nutrient balances and maize yields in a legume - maize ( Zea mays L.) cropping association in Nairobi, Kenya"  We wish her success and bright future in all her endeavors.
