UON@50 WEBINAR: THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON FOOD SYSTEMS AND EFFECTS ON FOOD AND NUTRITION.

The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences held its second UoN@50 Webinar Series on Wednesday 7th October, 2020 from 2.00pm. The webinar was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kiama who pointed out the commitment of the College in supporting food and nutrition security in the country as well as globally. Prof. Linus Opara from the University of Stellenbosch delivered key address on "The impact of covid-19 on food systems and effects on Food and Nutrition security. What are the opportunities during and post the pandemic." He indicated that the pandemic has exposed a lot of things and that we also need to think of food sovereignty apart form nutrition and food security. The  attendees were challenged to look forward and gear towards improvement of food security by harnessing our post-harvest technologies to ensure minimal loss to our crops and food. The panelists were Prof. Hamadi Boga PS, State department for Crop Development and Agricultural Research, Prof. Gabriel Okafor, fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology and Dr. Nicholas Ozor Executive Director ATPS Kenya.

The Webinar was organized by Faculty of Agriculture and moderated by Prof. Agnes Mwang'ombe.
