The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences held tree planting exercise at Kanyariri Vet farm on 18th April, 2021.The Equity bank who donated 1000 seedlings, Hindu Religious and Service Center who donated 100 seedlinds and Kshs 20,000.00 for labour, Kenya Forest Service, Tana and Athi River Development Authority (TARDA), Greens of Africa Foundation and Hearts of Green were among the stakeholders who graced the event. 1100 tree seedlings both indigenous and exotic were planted to fight global warming and climate change.
The organizations were grateful to the University of Nairobi for involving them in its environmental sustainability activities and promised to continue with the partnership. The College is planning to approach more organizations that are interested in environmental conservation and protection, with the aim of having 10% of University land under tree cover.
The activity came at an opportune time when the country is experiencing heavy rains.
