Objectives
- To evaluate the validated green gram varieties for farmer preferred traits
- To evaluate the cooking time and taste attributes of the validated varieties
- To impart knowledge on the nutritional quality and utilization aspects of green gram
- To demonstrate the management practices of key storage pests in green gram
Description
A farmers’ field day was conducted on 4th February 2021 to select their preferred TIMPs. In addition to variety selection, a green gram cooking and tasting exercise was carried out. The field day was attended by 59 farmers derived from both New Mwangaza Digital and Muuo-wa-kwa-Kisai farmer groups, as well as farmers from the neighbouring villages. Based on climate-smart agronomic traits, the farmers selected KS20 and N26 has their preferred varieties and rejected the new varieties. Farmers selected KS20 and Biashara has their preferred variety in terms of cooking time and taste, among other utilization attributes, and rejected N26.
