CALL FOR APPLICANTS: The Role of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and Virtual Exchanges in promoting Internationalization at Home in Higher Academic Institutions in Kenya | The University of Nairobi, Maseno University and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in collaboration with experts from Leibniz University Hannover (Germany) and Kibabii University are jointly sending a call for applicants to a training course on “The Role of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and Virtual Exchanges in promoting Internationalization at Home in Higher Academic Institutions in Kenya”. This intensive training course is part of the National Multiplication Trainings (NMT) of the DIES programme (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) coordinated by DAAD. NMT is one of the training courses under the DIES programs with the aim to strengthen DIES alumni in their role as multipliers in the field of higher education management and to promote the sustainability of DIES training. It is jointly initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors Conference (HRK) with partial funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development Cooperation (BMZ). This workshop will provide an in-depth application of COIL illustrating how virtual exchange can enable geographically distant students and staff to team up and develop core competencies and skills required for internationalization. The workshop will also offer an opportunity to explore the possibilities of combining the lessons learned in online education and international collaborations and linkages. The New Kenya Developed Food Security Simulator: A Practical Demonstration and Announcement of a Blog Competition | You are invited to participate in an online training session on the Food Security Simulator, organized by the Department of Economics and Development Studies, University of Nairobi (UON), Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). PROGRAM SUMMARY
The African Climate and Environment Center – Future African Savannas (AFAS) part of the Global Centers for Climate and Environment program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). AFAS is hosted conjointly at the University of Nairobi (UoN) with its Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation (ICCA) in Nairobi, Kenya and the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (UFHB) with its African Centre of Excellence on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture (CEA-CCBAD) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. AFAS aims to address climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation in West and East Africa’s savannas. AFAS complements the already existing expertise in the regions with a new and innovative component on the science-policy-practice interfaces to co-produce capacity development and research outputs that are relevant to policy and practice and implementable for the public and private sectors. AFAS will establish synergistic South-South and South-North partnerships, building upon the long-standing collaboration of UFHB and UoN with the Universities of Bonn (UoB) and Cologne (UoC) in Germany. For this master’s program, AFAS through UoN and UFHB are inviting applications for a total of 20 fully funded fellowships for the second cohort starting in September 2023. Selected students will participate in specially curated master’s courses within the core focus of AFAS. The topic of the Masters thesis will be also related to the AFAS research scope on Climate, Ecosystem Services and NbS in African Savannas. The Masters thesis and all AFAS-related coursework will be conducted in English language.

Attend the launch of the Centre for Educational Research and Evaluation (CERE) | You are invited to the launch of CERE- Fri, Feb 10, 2023 in Taifa Hall at 8:00 am. The University of Nairobi in partnership with University of Helsinki, Turku University and Strathmore University will host the Centre for Educational Research and Evaluation (CERE) through its REFORD project. REFORD Project refers to Research-Based and Future-Oriented Curriculum Review and Development for Teacher Education at the University of Nairobi and Strathmore University so that students will acquire skills needed in 21st century life and the labor market. The curriculum will align with Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) launched in 2017 in Kenya for basic education. The current focus is on rolling out CBC in higher education institutions and teacher education. The research conducted under the project will specifically strengthen the designing of curriculum, improve the quality of delivery of teacher preparation programmes and thus, strengthen the preparedness of the universities to implement the CBC. The Launch will be held in Taifa Hall on Friday, Feb 10, 2023 from 8:00 am- 5:00pm. The Chief Guest will be the CS for Education, Hon. Ezekiel Machogu. |
