ABOUT THE AFRICAN FOOD SAFETY SUMMITS
Poor quality and unsafe agricultural and processed food products are some of the most critical issues in Africa’s quest to provide adequate, nutritious, and safe food to its growing population.
They also negatively affect the continent’s ability to boost consumer health and hinder the realizations and growth of local, regional, and international trade – making the continent one of the most vulnerable to hunger, food-borne illnesses and death, trade restrictions, and loss of economic and social potential.

The Food processing hub at the Faculty of Agriculture hosts a high-level delegation from the Rockefeller Foundation

On Thursday, 29th June 2023, the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi was honored to host a high-level delegation from The Rockefeller Foundation. The visiting team was led by the Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Natalye Paquin from the New York Office, and Mr. William Asiko, the Vice President, of Africa Region, who happens to be an Alumni of the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Law class of 1987. The other team members were drawn from the Foundation’s Head Quarters in New York and other regional offices.

Call for abstracts for the 4th AAPHCE

I am writing to encourage us to submit and/or encourage your students to submit abstracts for the 4th All Africa Postharvest Congress and Exhibition (4th AAPHCE) scheduled for 17th to 19th September, 2023. It is a Hybrid event - the physical sessions will be held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa. The congress is being organized by a consortium of institutions/organizations including University of Nairobi and will be hosted by the African Union Commission. The deadline for abstract submission is 8th June, 2023. 

Tree Planting

The faculty of Agriculture organized a tree planting day on Friday 19th May 2023. The exercise was in line with the government’s initiative of planting 15 billion trees in the next 10 years. Over 2000 seedlings were planted.  In his opening remarks, the dean faculty of Agriculture Prof. Moses Nyangito said that the faculty had a running Environmental Stewardship Committee led by Dr. Kibet. He thanked the Vice Chancellor for setting aside land for planting trees. He also reiterated plans to create a buffer zone for university land by planting trees around it.

Collaboration and Partnerships between Experts from Faculty of Agriculture and Universities in Thailand

On 23rd May 2023, The Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Moses Nyangito received Deputy Head of Mission, Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi, Mr Tosark Janpian. Important discussions on forging collaboration and partnerships between experts from Faculty of Agriculture and Universities in Thailand were made. The focus in joint research, technology and innovation development and commercialization, as well as student training and mentorship were discussed at length. These discussions will be continued till a MOU with one leading Agricultural University in Thailand is achieved.
